Her immediate concern is earning enough money to live, while the others investigate the strange changes around them. Yet she knows something is different from the days when the old boss was in charge.
Elsewhere, the investigation of supposedly haunted properties continues to produce nothing. Shurako and her companion inspect another location, but there are no unusual signs. The lack of ghost activity makes the work boring, and Shurako eventually decides she would rather go do something else. Then Doppelgänger appears. He disguises himself as Shurako and approaches another member of the supernatural group. The disguise immediately causes confusion, but Doppelgänger quickly reveals that he is on his way to kill the real Shurako. He is still consumed by resentment over the way she treated him in the past.
His condition, however, is terrible. Maintaining Shurako's appearance is exhausting, and Doppelgänger admits that holding the form requires an enormous amount of concentration. He refuses to abandon the attempt because he believes giving up would make all his effort meaningless.
The other ghost recognizes that Doppelgänger is still as vindictive and narrow-minded as ever. Instead of stopping him, however, he decides to follow along. There is already bad blood between himself and Shurako, and watching Doppelgänger attempt the assassination sounds entertaining.
Before the confrontation begins, Shurako tries to contact the old medium for information. Her companion makes another joke about his recurring athlete's foot, but Shurako manages to focus long enough to call. She knows the medium also depends on the supernatural world for his livelihood, so he may have useful information about the sudden disappearance of ghosts.
Then the two sides finally collide. Shurako's companions spot Doppelgänger approaching and immediately panic. They believed he had become permanently incapacitated, so his appearance suggests that he has somehow recovered. Worse, they assume he must have a plan.
