Tomoro's group takes a risky approach, using an old computer to access the system while hiding behind dummy servers. The tactic works only temporarily. The enemy quickly tracks them down, forcing the group into another confrontation.
The mysterious girl who previously appeared with powerful Digimon arrives with three unusual partners, immediately putting pressure on the team. Rather than allowing her to stop Tomoro, the others stay behind to keep her occupied. Makoto and the rest of the group take on the enemy Digimon while Tomoro continues toward Asuka.
With the route opened for him, Tomoro moves deeper into the system alongside Miharu. Miharu helps guide him toward the location where Asuka is being held. When they finally reach the area, Miharu explains that Asuka is just beyond them. The rescue seems within reach, but the enemy has already anticipated their move.
The hidden servers are exposed, and Miharu apologizes after realizing that the group's defenses were discovered almost immediately. Despite that setback, Miharu's help gives Tomoro the opening he needs. After Algomon confirms that the path is safe, Miharu can go no further, leaving Tomoro to face the final obstacle alone.
Tomoro finally sees Asuka and demands that he be released. Instead of backing down, the enemy explains why Asuka cannot simply be returned. Asuka is described as the key to the Shangri-La Project, a massive plan designed to reshape humanity through Sapotamas.
The project's creator believes Sapotamas can allow every person to achieve an ideal version of themselves. In his eyes, this would create a perfect world—a true Shangri-La. But Tomoro immediately rejects the idea because its supposed perfection comes at the cost of individual freedom.
The confrontation also exposes the disturbing truth behind the enemy's Digimon. Tomoro realizes that the creatures fighting alongside their opponent are not properly linked to an Owner. Instead, their evolution has been forced by injecting them with e-Pulse. The process pushes them into Ultimate forms, treating the Digimon themselves as disposable sacrifices for the Shangri-La Project.
That revelation enrages Tomoro and his friends. They refuse to accept a future built by controlling people and sacrificing Digimon. With the immediate danger gone, Tomoro reaches Asuka. Their reunion is emotional, but it lasts only moments. The situation suddenly becomes much darker when the group learns how Asuka's separation was supposed to work. The plan originally came from Tasuku Tenma, Tomoro's grandfather. The revelation catches everyone off guard, especially because they had been told that Tasuku was dead.
The enemy dismisses Tasuku's attempt as meaningless resistance. Before Tomoro can fully process the revelation, Gekkomon steps in to protect him. Gekkomon declares that Tomoro must be protected, but the enemy shows no concern for their loyalty. Instead, Gekkomon's link is severed.
Tomoro watches in horror as Gekkomon collapses. The brutal attack leaves him devastated, and the enemy orders him to inject his e-Pulse. Tomoro's emotional response reveals just how deeply Gekkomon's loss affects him. He blames himself for being too weak to protect Gekkomon and struggles to process what has happened. The enemy admits that Tomoro and his allies were never simply intruders who happened to break into the facility. They were deliberately allowed inside. The entire situation was engineered so that Gekkomon could be exposed to black e-Pulse and forced into a new evolution. That evolution has already happened.
The result is Atratusmon, a terrifying Mega Digimon born from the plan surrounding Gekkomon. The revelation transforms the rescue mission into something far more dangerous. What Tomoro thought was a desperate attempt to save Asuka was actually part of a much larger experiment. At the same time, the consequences begin spreading beyond the facility.
Genjo confronts the situation and explains that Albatusmon and Atratusmon represent opposing forces, described as Yin and Yang. Genjo is confronted by three powerful figures: Sagomon, Chohakkaimon, and Sanzomon. Their appearances confirm that Genjo has been working with forces whose plans extend far beyond the immediate conflict. Genjo realizes that he has been betrayed and brands the others traitors. They show no regret. Instead, they thank him for helping accelerate their preparations and prepare to begin the next phase.
Gokuwmon evolves into Seitengokuwmon, and the battle that follows becomes vastly more destructive. The scale of the conflict suddenly expands beyond Tomoro's rescue mission, suggesting that the Shangri-La Project and the Digimon evolution experiments are connected to a much larger objective. Back in the outside world, systems begin malfunctioning. A critical error spreads through the network, and the characters realize that something enormous has appeared in the sky above Hikarigahama East. The object is so large that it immediately raises the possibility that it is one of the Digimon previously mentioned by Chairman Wong.
The crisis does not stop there. Sapotamas across the world begin displaying errors, indicating that whatever has happened inside the facility is affecting the entire global system. The characters can only watch as the scale of the emergency becomes clear.
