Spica’s search for the legendary Book of Providence uncovers Claude’s curse, but freeing him forces her to confront a terrifying challenge that changes their future.
The episode 19 of The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch starts with Spica practicing flight magic while her friend Aria watches from below. The attempt ends with Spica falling and escaping with only a bloody nose, but her failure does not weaken her determination. She explains that her dream is to attend the Royal Diana Academy and become a first-class magician like Master Claude.
Aria questions Spica's choice because many people now view Claude as a coward after the cultist attack on Diana Academy two years earlier. According to the public story, Claude abandoned the students during the incident. Spica refuses to believe that version of events because she personally experienced Claude's kindness during the attack.
Spica's biggest obstacle is her lack of magical training. She cannot afford a tutor because she has a large family, so she has been forced to teach herself. Her desperate practice eventually catches the attention of a strange black cat who complains about the noise she is making.
The cat suddenly speaks, shocking Spica. He reveals that he was once a human magician who was transformed into a cat by a curse. Spica immediately begs him to become her teacher. Although Claude initially considers her request troublesome, he eventually agrees after realizing that she can hear his voice and is willing to work hard.
Claude takes Spica to the capital and begins testing her potential. However, he soon decides that the best way to make her give up is to assign her an impossible task. He sends her to the Royal Library to find the legendary Book of Providence, a grimoire said to possess extraordinary wisdom. Claude wants Spica to use it to discover how his curse can be broken.
There is a major problem: the library contains thousands of books, and Claude cannot search them himself because the magical security system detects non-human beings. Spica therefore has to search alone. Claude gives her only one month, convinced that she will quit within days.
Instead, Spica surprises him. She begins studying ancient runes, reasoning that a legendary grimoire might contain writing from an ancient magical language. Although she originally disliked reading, Spica becomes increasingly interested in magical texts and learns that ancient runes can activate when carved.
When the month ends, Claude is ready to dismiss her. Spica begs for more time because she still wants to enter Diana Academy. Claude asks why she is so determined to follow his path, prompting Spica to explain what happened during the cultist attack two years earlier.
Spica remembers being surrounded by death and believing that she would never see her family again. Just when she had lost hope, Claude appeared and encouraged her to survive. He protected her during the attack, leaving such a strong impression that Spica decided she wanted to become a magician capable of risking her life to protect others.
Claude mocks her idealized view of him, but Spica suddenly notices hidden writing on the cover of a book. Using her knowledge of ancient runes, she identifies the message as “The Inviter.” The markings activate a hidden passage, revealing an extradimensional space filled with forbidden books and national-treasure-grade grimoires.
Inside, Spica finally finds the Book of Providence. Rather than being an ordinary book, Providence appears as a talking runestone that already knows Spica's name. When she asks how Claude's curse can be undone, Providence explains that Claude is suffering from a karmic curse, a forbidden form of magic that transfers the body to another being while leaving the person's soul behind.
Providence then reveals that Spica possesses Rebirth Magic. Her unusually fast recovery from injuries is the evidence she never recognized. According to Providence, Spica can inject her magic into Claude and restore his original body.
The proposed method, however, is so embarrassing that Spica refuses. Providence explains that the magic needs to enter Claude through a specific method for it to circulate effectively, leading to an absurd and uncomfortable exchange that leaves Spica horrified. Before they can find another solution, they hear someone approaching.
The Royal Library is suddenly attacked by an Orthrus, one of the mystical beasts associated with the cultists who attacked Diana Academy. Claude realizes that surviving cultists are likely targeting the forbidden books. With the army still on its way, he and Spica have no choice but to run and survive until help arrives.
The Orthrus quickly catches up with them. Claude knows that his cat form has almost none of the magical power he possessed as a human, so he tells Spica that there is only one way to survive: she must undo his curse. Spica still refuses because of the embarrassing method required to transfer her Rebirth Magic.
Claude becomes frustrated with her hesitation and tells her that her claims about becoming a strong magician mean nothing if she cannot act when someone's life is on the line. He prepares to face the danger himself, but the Orthrus attacks before Spica can respond.
Claude uses Sagittarius Magic: Whirlwind to protect Spica and orders her to escape. His sacrifice forces Spica to confront her own weakness. She realizes that she has repeatedly relied on others for protection despite promising herself that she would become strong enough to protect people.
Although Spica knows she is nowhere near strong enough to defeat the Orthrus, she decides to fight anyway. Before she can do much, however, Claude's condition suddenly changes. After spending two years trapped in his cursed form, he finally regains his human body.
Spica immediately realizes that the mysterious cat she has been following is actually Claude Sirius. Claude then demonstrates exactly why he earned his legendary reputation. With overwhelming magical power, he unleashes Sagittarius Grand Magic: Cryo Bow — Icing Arrow, freezing the Orthrus and ending the battle almost effortlessly.
Spica is thrilled to discover that her idol is standing right in front of her, but that excitement quickly turns into disappointment. The Claude she meets now is sarcastic, blunt, and far less charming than the heroic figure she remembered from the academy attack. She even complains that the kindness she saw two years ago seemed completely different from his current personality.
Claude tells Spica not to be disappointed by an idealized version of him. He insists that he is simply who he is. Even so, Spica notices that the expression he showed while protecting her during the attack was the same one she remembered from two years earlier, suggesting that the person she admired was not entirely an illusion.
Claude then decides that their agreement is finished because he has regained his original body. He turns back into a cat and prepares to leave, but Providence explains that the curse has not actually been completely removed. Spica's magical level is too low. To fully break the curse, the magician providing the magic must reach the same level as the person suffering from the curse.
That revelation changes everything. Claude realizes that he needs Spica to become a first-class magician. Their goals now align: Spica wants to achieve the rank she has dreamed about, while Claude needs her to reach that level so his curse can finally be broken.
Claude agrees to train Spica personally. He tells her to call him Professor, reminding her that he was once a professor at Diana Academy. He plans to speak with the headmistress about returning to his old position and promises to train Spica for the next three years.
Spica is ecstatic when she learns that her idol will become her personal teacher. However, Claude has no idea what awaits him at Diana Academy. His return will eventually put him in charge of a class filled with troublesome students known as Pandora's Box.
The episode closes by setting up the next chapter, “Magic of the Zodiac.” Spica's dream of becoming a first-class magician now has a real path forward, but reaching that level will require years of intense training under Claude. At the same time, Claude's unfinished curse gives him a personal reason to push her harder than ever.
