The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch Episode 18 Recap: Spica Meets Voodie and Faces a Dangerous Race

Spica gains a strange magical helper, survives a deadly monster, witnesses Aria’s overwhelming power, and risks everything to save Merrow’s injured dolphin.

The episode 18 of The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch starts with Spica settling down on the deserted island and checking the strange bag provided for the exam. At the bottom, she discovers a small doll and a note telling her to place a strand of hair inside it. When she follows the instruction, the doll activates and introduces itself as Voodie, a magical doll assigned to protect and assist her.

Voodie analyzes Spica, identifies her as a Virgo magician, and explains its real purpose. Voodie is a sacrificial doll that can save Spica from danger up to three times. Every rescue counts, and once Voodie has protected her three times, Spica is disqualified even if she has enough gems. Every dangerous situation is therefore a serious decision.

Voodie also explains the island's gem system. There are forty gems divided into five types: one diamond, three rubies, six emeralds, ten sapphires, and twenty crystals. Rarer gems are worth more points, so Spica immediately realizes that finding the diamond could put her in first place. The map carries a cryptic clue saying that the diamond “sleeps in the heart,” but Voodie refuses to explain it. Spica decides to stop guessing and starts exploring.

She enters a huge cave hoping to find gems, but what looks like treasure quickly turns into a trap. The sparkling material is actually sticky slime, and Spica has been caught by a Big Grossworm, a mystical beast that uses gem-like slime fibers to lure and eat prey. She panics and calls Voodie, using up her first emergency protection.

Spica refuses to let the encounter end her exam and fights back with Virgo Magic: Herbarium: Cactus Kiss! The attack gives her a chance to escape. Voodie can also detect nearby gems and changes color according to their type, with green indicating that an emerald is nearby.

Before Spica can capitalize on that discovery, she sees Pollux and Aria fighting over an emerald. Pollux has obtained the gem after her brother defeated a mystical beast, while Aria wants it for herself. Their argument becomes a serious magical duel. Spica considers stealing the emerald during the chaos but decides that interfering in a one-on-one fight would be dishonorable. Instead, she watches and gathers information.

Pollux, a Gemini magician, uses Gemini Magic: Mirror Augment to create a light-based double. She attacks from the front while the duplicate moves behind Aria for a pincer attack. Aria counters with Aquarius Magic: Aqua Sphere, unleashing a powerful torrent that knocks Pollux down and destroys her double.

Pollux then reveals another trick by turning invisible and switching positions with her duplicate. She gets away with the emerald, but Aria continues the fight. Aria explains that her normal Aquarius Magic manipulates water vapor in the air, which consumes a lot of magic power. Near a large body of water, however, she can use much stronger attacks without that disadvantage.

Her Aquarius Magic: Aqua Balaena overwhelms Pollux and forces her to surrender the emerald. Voodie is called in when the battle becomes too dangerous. Pollux accepts the result honestly, while Aria makes it clear she expects to win again if they fight in the future. Spica gains valuable information but is shaken by the gap between them. Aria already has thirty points, while Spica has none.

The story then shifts to Merrow Pisces, who is searching for her dolphin companion, Johnny. She has known him since childhood and treats him as a close friend. When Spica encounters Merrow, dolphins suddenly begin appearing around the area, adding to the confusion.

A misunderstanding follows when Merrow sees Johnny injured and assumes Spica has eaten him. Spica has actually been cooking a meal made from the Grossworm, which she explains is edible despite its appearance. Merrow's grief leads into an emotional song about Johnny, unexpectedly moving everyone around her.

The misunderstanding is finally cleared up. Johnny was accidentally caught in the shallows during Aria's earlier water attack, leaving him with burns and injuries. Spica feels responsible and immediately searches for a way to help. She learns that red aloe can treat the wounds and asks Voodie where it grows.

Merrow decides to retrieve the aloe, and Spica chooses to go with her even though she still needs to collect gems. Voodie carries Johnny toward the shore while the two girls climb. The cliff is extremely difficult, with few handholds, strong wind, and exhaustion pushing Merrow close to giving up. Still, she keeps climbing because Johnny needs her.

Spica refuses to leave Merrow alone, and their teamwork finally gets them to the top. They find the red aloe and return with it, giving Johnny a chance to be treated. Before they part, Merrow thanks Spica for risking herself to help someone else's friend. She says she has never had a friend like Spica and believes Spica's kindness will eventually come back to her. Those words lift Spica's spirits after her earlier fear that Aria is simply too strong to compete against. But the pressure returns quickly as the sun begins to set.

Voodie reminds Spica that it is already 5:00 PM, fourteen hours remain, and she still has zero gems. Voodie cannot reveal gem locations until Spica gets close enough to them, so she must keep searching on her own. Then she spots a large bird carrying a ruby, one of the island's rarest gems.

Spica immediately sees her chance to finally score. Unfortunately, Leo also declares that he intends to take the ruby. The episode ends with both the precious gem and the next major confrontation in sight. Spica has spent the day surviving monsters, studying stronger students, and helping Merrow save Johnny, but now she must finally fight for points.

The ending sets up the next stage: a battle over the ruby. Spica still has no gems, but she now has more experience, stronger resolve, and a reason to keep fighting. The next episode promises to turn that determination into action as the students compete for one of the island's most valuable prizes.

The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch Episode 18 delivers a strong mix of action, comedy, magic, and emotional character development as Spica struggles to gain points while facing the dangers of the island exam. Her encounter with Voodie gives her a useful but limited safety net, while the battle between Pollux and Aria clearly shows just how powerful the competition has become. The episode also gives Spica a more compassionate side when she helps Merrow rescue her injured dolphin friend, Johnny, even though doing so costs her valuable time during the exam. That decision reinforces Spica’s willingness to help others despite being under intense pressure herself. With Spica still holding zero gems and finally spotting a valuable ruby, the episode ends on an exciting note that sets up a much more competitive phase of the exam.
