Reirin’s life hangs in the balance as Keigetsu takes on a sacred bow, while Gyoumei prepares to enter the Forbidden City to find a mystical cure.
The episode 6 of Though I Am an Inept Villainess starts with Shu Keigetsu and the others discussing a mysterious missing hairpin before the mood suddenly changes when Kou Tousetsu arrives with devastating news. Lady Reirin has lost consciousness because of her fever, and the medicines provided by the apothecaries have failed to improve her condition. Although Reirin has always struggled with poor health, Tousetsu makes it clear that this illness is far more serious than anything she has experienced before.
Empress Kou Kenshuu initially remains calm. She understands that Reirin has always possessed a remarkably strong will despite her fragile body. However, when Tousetsu admits that Reirin may not survive the day, the Empress recognizes that everyone must stop simply accepting her illness as fate. If Reirin wants to continue living, those around her must fight alongside her and give her every possible chance.
That determination inspires Keigetsu to step forward. She asks permission to enter the Kou Palace, claiming that she has some knowledge of nursing and may be able to help Reirin. Her request immediately raises suspicion because Keigetsu has repeatedly appeared hostile toward Reirin. When she is confronted about her jealousy, Keigetsu finally admits the truth: she really has been staring at Reirin, but not because she hates her. She is embarrassed to confess that she is actually fond of her.
Keigetsu also feels responsible for the trouble she has caused Reirin and desperately wants to make amends. Kenshuu remains unconvinced, but instead of rejecting her outright, she offers Keigetsu a way to prove that her intentions are genuine.
The Empress orders Shin-U, captain of the Eagle Eyes, to bring out the Bow of Warding. The sacred treasure belongs to the Gen clan and carries extremely powerful water qi. Because Keigetsu possesses a fire blessing, the weapon is particularly difficult for her to handle. Kenshuu deliberately chooses it as a test because an easy task would not prove Keigetsu's sincerity.
The Bow of Warding can detect maladies through the vibration of its string and purify them through the sound created when an arrow strikes its target. Kenshuu tells Keigetsu that if she can draw the bow throughout the night while praying for Reirin's recovery, she will accept that Keigetsu carries no ill will toward Reirin and allow her to help.
Keigetsu accepts immediately and begins the Archery Vigil. As she struggles with the powerful sacred weapon, the episode reveals more about Keigetsu's painful childhood. She remembers being treated as an embarrassment by her parents and searching for warmth by speaking to flames. She eventually discovered that the ability was forbidden magic, yet she learned to control it. The one person who gave her anything resembling trust was Noble Consort Shu Gabi.
Even then, Keigetsu was compared to Reirin. She was made to hear how different her life could have been if she were more like the Kou maiden. Keigetsu eventually decided that she would become Reirin, believing that taking on Reirin's identity would allow her own miserable life to finally change.
Back in the present, Reirin remains unconscious and continues battling her illness. Her court ladies try to care for her while Keigetsu keeps drawing the Bow of Warding. She has already spent more than six hours performing the vigil, refusing to eat and pushing herself despite the strain.
When Leelee notices how badly Keigetsu is wearing herself down, Keigetsu brushes aside the concern. She refuses to stop because Reirin still has not regained consciousness. Even when Bunkou and Shin-U arrive after concerned court ladies and eunuchs report her reckless behavior, Keigetsu insists on continuing.
The situation becomes more alarming when they notice Keigetsu's injured hand. Her palm has been badly damaged from repeatedly drawing the bow. Keigetsu insists that she is being careful not to let her blood touch the sacred treasure, completely misunderstanding what the others are actually worried about. Shin-U tries to take the bow away, but Keigetsu refuses.
She argues that she is a villainess and sees little reason for everyone to become concerned over a few scrapes. Her words reveal how little value she places on her own wellbeing compared with Reirin's life.
Then a crucial piece of news arrives: Reirin's fever is gradually falling, and there are signs that she is recovering. Keigetsu is ordered to stop the vigil and receive treatment, but she remains determined. She realizes that her strong earth qi may allow her to gradually control the Bow of Warding despite its powerful water qi. Her hand is becoming numb, yet her accuracy is improving.
Meanwhile, Crown Prince Ei Gyoumei finally receives the news that Reirin is beginning to recover. He is relieved, but the situation also forces him to confront his own frustration. Despite possessing tremendous authority, he feels helpless because he has spent much of his life protected from adversity.
Gyoumei refuses to simply wait for morning. He decides to travel to the Violet Dragon’s Spring, located inside the Forbidden City, to obtain its mystical water. He believes the water may help Reirin recover and wants to do something meaningful rather than remain powerless while she fights for her life.
His urgency increases when he learns that Keigetsu has continued drawing the Bow of Warding even after her palm began bleeding. Rather than slowing him down, the news convinces him that he must act immediately. He orders his attendants to prepare the necessary supplies and sets out toward the Forbidden City.
While these events unfold, Reirin begins reflecting on her own life. She remembers how often she tried to hide her suffering so that she would not make others worry. Years of illness taught her to live with the fear that she might not wake up the next morning. She even threw herself into training during difficult periods, using physical exertion to empty her mind.
But Keigetsu has changed something inside her. Reirin realizes that she now possesses an incredible amount of energy and emotional strength because of the experiences she has shared with Keigetsu. Instead of quietly accepting death, she decides to fight back. She wants to struggle, be reckless, and do everything possible to survive.
Most importantly, Reirin refuses to let Keigetsu die. That determination finally pays off. Reirin regains consciousness, shocking and delighting the people around her. At almost the same moment, Keigetsu successfully hits her target with the Bow of Warding and hears the celebration coming from the direction of the Kou Palace.
When Keigetsu realizes that Reirin is awake, she is overwhelmed with relief. She admits that she never expected tears to come so easily simply because she was relieved. After pushing herself to the edge throughout the vigil, she can finally allow herself to acknowledge what Reirin's survival means to her.
Reirin also learns that Keigetsu continued the vigil for her and even injured herself in the process. The moment becomes an emotional turning point for both women. Their relationship has moved far beyond rivalry and identity confusion. Keigetsu genuinely wants Reirin to live, while Reirin now understands just how deeply Keigetsu cares about her.
However, the episode saves its biggest twist for the final moments. Tousetsu approaches the awakened Reirin and studies her carefully. Instead of simply celebrating her recovery, Tousetsu says that she knew it. She asks whether the woman before her is truly Lady Reirin. The question immediately changes the mood.
Tousetsu appears to have recognized that something about Reirin is different, suggesting that the truth about the soul exchange between Reirin and Keigetsu may finally be coming to light. After an episode centered on saving Reirin's life, the story ends by creating an entirely new danger: the people closest to Reirin may soon discover who is actually living inside her body.
Though I Am an Inept Villainess Episode 6 is an emotional, character-focused chapter that gives Keigetsu some of her strongest development yet while pushing the soul-swap story toward a dangerous new stage. Her decision to endure the Archery Vigil despite her injured hand shows that her feelings for Reirin have completely changed from envy into genuine affection and loyalty. Gyoumei's determination to reach the Violet Dragon's Spring also adds urgency as he struggles with his inability to directly protect Reirin. At the same time, Reirin's memories reveal how deeply years of illness have affected her and why Keigetsu's actions give her a new reason to fight for her life. The emotional payoff arrives when Reirin finally awakens and Keigetsu hears the celebration from the Kou Palace, but the relief is short-lived. Tousetsu's final question strongly suggests that she has noticed something unusual about Reirin, setting up a potentially explosive confrontation over the true identities of the two maidens. Overall, Episode 6 combines emotional character growth, palace tension, and a major mystery reveal to make Reirin's recovery feel like the beginning of an even bigger problem.
