The episode 7 of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Calamity starts with Jushiro Ukitake revealing the devastating price of using the Soul King's right arm to prevent the collapse of the Three Worlds. Although his intervention has temporarily stabilized reality, Ukitake knows that the effort will ultimately cost him his life.
Rather than accepting his fate passively, Ukitake seeks out Shunsui Kyoraku, the newly appointed Head Captain of the Gotei 13. He entrusts his remaining strength and hopes to Shunsui, asking him to protect the world after Ukitake is gone. Shunsui recognizes the impossibly slim odds but accepts the responsibility. The conversation establishes one of the episode's central ideas: victory will require people to sacrifice themselves while trusting others to finish what they started.
Meanwhile, the situation around the Royal Palace becomes increasingly unstable. The strange distortion surrounding the area is still threatening the balance of the worlds, while Soul Reapers monitor its spread and attempt to prevent a total collapse. Reports of Hollow attacks arrive from the Rukon District, but the Soul Reapers are forced to prioritize stabilizing reality.
The decision is brutal. Saving Seireitei may mean abandoning parts of the Rukon District, showing just how catastrophic the current crisis has become. The Soul Reapers understand that there may be no perfect solution left. Every choice could cost innocent lives.
Inside the strange structure surrounding the Royal Palace, a completely unexpected reunion takes place. Uryu Ishida encounters Ichigo Kurosaki's allies, including Tier Harribel and Nelliel. Their presence immediately changes the situation because the people gathered there represent three traditionally opposing groups: Soul Reapers, Quincies, and Hollows.
Uryu then explains the truth behind the mysterious distortion. Before the war even began, Yhwach had prepared a hidden mechanism designed to trigger the collapse of the Three Worlds. The enormous structure at the center of the distortion is effectively a seed of destruction, waiting to complete the process Yhwach set in motion.
The explanation becomes even more disturbing when Uryu reveals his own connection to the disaster. His research had once been driven by a desire to create a world where different spiritual races could coexist. In pursuing greater power, however, he discovered a method of combining souls from different species and producing an even higher form of spiritual existence.
Uryu admits that he lost control of that power. What he initially believed could potentially change the relationship between different races instead became the exact destructive mechanism Yhwach wanted. Realizing this, Uryu concludes that simply destroying the distortion will not be enough.
His solution is extremely dangerous. The seed of destruction must collide directly with the center of the distortion at the boundary between worlds. If the two forces destroy each other simultaneously, the mechanism responsible for the collapse could potentially disappear with them.
There is one enormous problem: the energy released by that collision could destroy everything around it, including the Royal Palace and Seireitei. Uryu therefore proposes separating the central tower from the rest of the massive structure before forcing it downward.
The Arrancar refuse to leave him to carry out the plan alone. Harribel and the others make it clear that Uryu does not have to face the final battle by himself. The alliance is extraordinary because Soul Reapers, Quincies, and Arrancar have spent much of their history fighting one another, yet they are now preparing to work together to save the same world.
Uryu accepts their help, even while warning that the plan could put everyone in direct conflict with Yhwach. He also acknowledges that he may be the only person present capable of challenging Yhwach's overwhelming power directly.
The group then begins preparing for the operation. Uryu reveals the existence of special Quincy devices called Leiden Scherben, which can break down and scatter massive quantities of reishi. Their purpose is to destroy the five bridges connecting the central tower to the detached palace, allowing only the necessary section of the structure to fall.
The plan is precise because Uryu does not want to cause unnecessary destruction. Every explosion has to be carefully controlled. The central tower must be separated without destroying the people occupying the remaining structures, giving the group a narrow path toward saving reality.
Elsewhere, Ichigo Kurosaki reaches a devastating low point. His attacks have stopped working, while Orihime Inoue and the other fighters are similarly unable to change the situation. Ichigo begins to believe that nothing he does can possibly defeat Yhwach.
Yhwach then turns Ichigo's despair into something even worse. He announces that the power he previously granted Ichigo is being taken back. The effect is horrifying as Ichigo feels both his Quincy power and the Hollow power intertwined with it begin disappearing.
The scene makes Ichigo appear completely powerless just as the final confrontation should be beginning. Yhwach frames the moment as the end of Ichigo's journey, believing that the substitute Soul Reaper has finally been reduced to despair.
But Uryu's actions reveal that the situation is not quite what Yhwach believes.
As the destructive plan moves forward, Uryu Ishida confronts Yhwach and fires an attack capable of exploiting the enormous amount of reishi surrounding Wahr Welt. His strategy involves breaking down that reishi and redirecting it into a devastating projectile.
Yhwach remains confident because of The Almighty, his ability to perceive and manipulate possible futures. He claims that he has already seen Uryu's attempt and has accounted for it. To Yhwach, hope itself is meaningless because every possible outcome has already been incorporated into the future he controls.
Uryu, however, reveals that he has prepared for exactly that possibility. He explains that Yhwach may have seen the arrow breaking in one future, but Uryu used his own ability to exchange that outcome for another future in which the arrow does not break.
The attack lands with enormous consequences. The seed of destruction collides with the distortion, producing a catastrophic release of energy that threatens both the Royal Palace and Seireitei. Uryu openly acknowledges the danger. This was never a victory he expected to achieve alone.
At the crucial moment, another ability changes the outcome. Antithesis allows Uryu to reverse the circumstances between two targets, giving him a way to overturn the result of the devastating exchange. For a brief moment, it appears that the war may finally be reaching its conclusion.
But Yhwach refuses to accept defeat.
Even after everything Uryu has done, Yhwach insists that his control over the future remains absolute. He declares that every Quincy Schrift has ultimately been absorbed into The Almighty, giving him an even greater command over the possibilities ahead.
The episode ends on a deliberately ominous note. The war has not truly ended, despite Uryu's desperate counterattack and the enormous destruction unleashed around the Royal Palace. The world itself remains trapped on the edge of collapse, while Yhwach continues to claim that he can see every possible future.
The final imagery reinforces the idea that the ending of this war may also be the beginning of something even more dangerous. Ichigo's power has been stripped away, Uryu has committed himself to an irreversible plan, and Yhwach remains convinced that fate itself belongs to him.
For the heroes, there is no longer a safe path forward. The only option is to force a future that The Almighty cannot control.
Episode Review
Episode 7 turns the conflict into a desperate battle against fate itself. The strongest part of the episode is the unlikely alliance between Soul Reapers, Quincies, and Arrancar, with Uryu finally taking responsibility for the destruction connected to his research and choosing to fight against Yhwach's plan. At the same time, Ichigo's loss of both his Quincy and Hollow powers gives the climax a deeply unsettling edge. The episode makes it clear that raw strength is no longer enough—the final battle will depend on sacrifice, strategy, and the ability to outmaneuver a villain who can see the future.
