The Forsaken Saintess and her Foodie Roadtrip in Another World Episode 8 Recap: Rin Takes on Merlova’s Monster

Rin’s search for great food takes a dangerous turn when Merlova’s sacred spring is seized by a mysterious monster—and her final encounter changes everything.

The episode 8 of The Forsaken Saintess and her Foodie Roadtrip in Another World starts with Rin Takanashi enjoying one of the things she loves most: fishing. Her outdoor hobby has become more dangerous since arriving in another world, but it has also become far more rewarding. When she hooks a massive creature, Rin discovers that it is a Mad Otter, a giant otter-like monster with rich, fatty meat. Her Survival Strategy immediately identifies it as edible and delicious, turning what could have been a dangerous catch into the centerpiece of dinner.

The story then jumps back to earlier in the day as Rin travels toward Lake Real with the members of Glutton’s Table. The group is heading toward Merlova, and Rin is enjoying the unusual luxury of riding in the women’s seat rather than the passenger seat. As they approach the lake, everyone starts thinking about dinner and the possibility of catching fresh ingredients.

The journey also brings Rin back to the place where her life in this world truly began. She remembers being summoned through the Saintess Summoning and fishing in this same area on her first day. Looking back, she realizes just how much has changed since then. She even jokes that everything began when she “fished up” Ville, leaving the others confused about how that could possibly have happened.

Once they reach the lake, the entire group gets involved in gathering ingredients. Aria and Miso help Rin collect food, while the others offer their own abilities. Their teamwork highlights how naturally Rin has become part of the party. What began as a simple road trip has gradually turned into a shared lifestyle where hunting, traveling, and eating are all group activities.

Among their haul is the Mad Otter. Rin decides to cook it despite everyone’s hesitation because her Survival Strategy confirms that the monster is delicious. Aria also explains that elves traditionally consume Mad Otter as a tonic, which makes the creature’s unusually fatty meat even more appealing. Rin plans a hearty stew that will make use of the meat’s natural richness instead of allowing the fat to overwhelm the dish.

As evening approaches, the party spots Mount Merlova in the distance. The mountain’s volcanic crater is surprisingly calm despite its history of eruption. Since darkness is approaching, they decide to establish camp and prepare dinner.

Rin begins by cutting potatoes, chopping onions, and rehydrating dried mushrooms. Instead of throwing away the mushroom water, she saves it as part of the broth. She then seasons and sears the Mad Otter meat before combining it with the vegetables and broth. The monster releases an enormous amount of fat while cooking, but Rin cleverly uses that rendered fat to stir-fry the vegetables, turning what could have been a problem into another source of flavor.

The finished stew quickly becomes a hit. The Mad Otter meat is firm but incredibly rich, with the fat melting in the mouth after cooking. The broth absorbs the deep flavor of the meat, while the potatoes and vegetables soak up everything around them. Even those who were initially skeptical are impressed by Rin’s ability to transform an unfamiliar monster into a satisfying meal.

The real surprise comes when Rin serves golden trout roe with white rice. The roe has a creamy interior packed with umami and enough saltiness to bring out the natural sweetness of the rice. Rin finds the combination almost dangerously addictive, admitting that she cannot stop eating once she starts. The entire group quickly shares her enthusiasm.

The next part of the journey focuses on Rin’s growing importance to Glutton’s Table. Senon takes the passenger seat, giving Rin an opportunity to talk with him about food from the elf village. He explains that their meals mainly consist of tough game meat, mountain vegetables, and occasionally monsters. While the elves know how to survive using what the forest provides, Rin’s cooking has introduced an entirely different standard of food to the group.

The others openly admit that traveling without Rin was miserable because completing a difficult quest could still leave them facing an even bigger problem: finding something decent to eat afterward. Rin promises that she will keep cooking delicious meals for them. The group responds by making it clear that she is no longer simply another traveling companion. She has become an indispensable member of Glutton’s Table.

When the group reaches Merlova, they immediately head for a restaurant they remember from their previous visit. Aria is especially excited to have steamed Rainbow-Tail Chicken seasoned with the town’s famous spring salt. Unfortunately, their favorite dish is unavailable because Merlova is running low on the special seasoning.

Rather than allowing the disappointment to ruin the meal, Rin encourages Aria to look at the situation differently. The loss of spring salt means they have an opportunity to discover another flavor instead. They order the chicken with herb salt, and the result surprises Rin. The Rainbow-Tail Chicken has tender, juicy meat, rich skin, a subtle sweetness, and an intensely satisfying texture. Although Rin still wants to taste the original spring-salt version someday, the replacement dish proves that an unexpected change can lead to something equally enjoyable.

Their meal takes an important turn when Aigure, the Guild Master of Merlova, approaches the group. After receiving documents from Tori, the Guild Master of Elrage, Aigure asks them for help with a serious problem. A mysterious monster has established a nest near the source of Merlova’s spring salt. Adventurers have already tried to defeat it, but every attempt has failed. The problem is especially serious because spring salt has become one of Merlova’s signature products, developed through cooperation between the Adventurer’s Guild and Merchant Guild. If the monster remains there, the town could lose an important part of its food industry.

For Rin, however, the situation is even more frustrating because she has not yet had the chance to taste the famous spring salt. While some members of the party question whether they should accept such a dangerous quest when they are supposed to continue toward the royal capital, Rin’s desire to experience the local specialty becomes a surprisingly powerful argument.

The group eventually accepts the mission. Aigure warns them that reaching the spring source normally takes about five hours on foot because the route is filled with steep climbs and difficult terrain. Thanks to their transportation, however, the journey is dramatically shortened.

As they approach the mountain, the group examines the information available about the monster. The smaller creatures in the area are mostly weak fire-type monsters, but the main threat is far more complicated. Previous adventurers reported seeing completely different monsters at the same location. Even members of the same party described different creatures.

The group realizes that the boss is likely using illusion magic, meaning its appearance cannot be trusted. That makes the coming battle particularly dangerous because they cannot simply prepare for one known enemy. They also learn that the spring source is more than just an economic resource. Near the summit of Mount Merlova is a sacred site connected to an ancient legend. According to local lore, a great dragon once lived inside the mountain, playing with fire and wind. A village girl eventually encountered the dragon, and the two resonated with each other. The dragon blessed her, allowing her to become a miko.

Because the summit is believed to be the place where the dragon and miko first met, the area has deep religious significance. The fact that a monster has now occupied the sacred location is therefore not simply a practical problem for Merlova. It threatens a place that many locals consider holy. While traveling, Rin accidentally runs over something on the road and worries that it might have been a poisonous volcano slime. Before she can investigate, the others sense a much larger creature nearby.

They discover a Warm Water Lizard, another monster that Rin’s Survival Strategy identifies as delicious. Its meat is soft and juicy, while the collagen-rich skin becomes especially flavorful when steamed. Naturally, Glutton’s Table cannot resist. Rin decides to prepare the lizard using a nearby steam vent. Since they are traveling around a volcanic mountain, the natural source of heat provides an unusual opportunity for outdoor cooking. She places the food where it can be steamed safely and begins preparing a dipping sauce.

Everyone expects Rin to make her famous tartar sauce, but she surprises them by choosing something different: a mildly spicy mayonnaise sauce. She combines rich mayonnaise with local miso and Shichimi Togarashi from her hometown. The result becomes a small culinary bridge between Rin’s original world and the world she now inhabits.

While the food cooks, Rin is reminded not to wander off alone because monsters are everywhere in the area. She agrees, but the next moment changes the entire mood of the episode. Rin suddenly finds herself in an unfamiliar situation. The warm volcanic environment makes her feel sleepy and comfortable, and something keeps brushing against her face. Before long, she loses consciousness.

When Rin finally awakens, she hears an unfamiliar voice addressing her. The speaker claims that Rin was sent to become an attendant, but criticizes her for being clumsy. Rin is stunned by the accusation because she has no idea who this person is or what “attendant” means. The episode ends immediately on this mysterious revelation, leaving the identity of the speaker and the truth behind Rin’s unexpected encounter as the major cliffhanger heading into Episode 9.

The Forsaken Saintess and her Foodie Roadtrip in Another World Episode 8 is one of the series’ strongest blends of cozy food fantasy and adventure, using Rin’s cooking obsession to naturally push the story into a much larger mystery. The Mad Otter stew, trout roe, Rainbow-Tail Chicken, and Warm Water Lizard give the episode plenty of mouthwatering moments, but the Merlova quest adds real stakes beneath the relaxed road-trip atmosphere. The ancient dragon legend also expands the world around Mount Merlova, while the final revelation about Rin being an “attendant” completely changes the mood in the closing moments. It is a fun, food-heavy episode that quietly sets up a much more intriguing conflict for the next chapter.
