Their arranged ship looks especially formidable, but they soon learn that crossing these waters is dangerous enough to require armed vessels covered in dragon-scale armor.
Arc initially assumes pirates must be the greatest threat, only to discover that the real danger comes from Krakens—massive squid or octopus-like monsters capable of attacking ships. Rather than being frightened, Arc becomes even more excited. The prospect of seeing a legendary giant sea monster fills him with the same enthusiasm as someone finally encountering one of fantasy's most iconic creatures. Naturally, his excitement worries everyone else, especially because his habit of talking about Krakens feels like exactly the kind of thing that might bring one straight toward them.
Once the ship finally leaves port, Arc embraces the classic image of standing dramatically at the bow of the vessel and staring out across the ocean. His excitement quickly gives way to a more practical concern, however: if he falls into the sea while wearing his heavy armor, he would sink almost immediately. Meanwhile, Chiyome stays apart from the group and appears unusually quiet. Arc wonders whether she is nervous about entering unfamiliar territory, while others jokingly suggest she may be anxious about meeting handsome men. Neither explanation is correct.
The truth is that Chiyome is worried about Sasuke, the man she calls her older brother. Although they are not related by blood, their bond is extremely important to her. Before the group left, Master Hanzo reminded Chiyome and Tsubone that if Sasuke truly was responsible for the earlier attack on an elf warrior, the matter could become a serious conflict. The elves have not yet escalated the situation, but the Jinshin Clan still needs to discover the truth. With Sasuke now caught up in that mystery, Chiyome cannot stop worrying about him.
Tsubone then explains how Chiyome came to the Jinshin Clan in the first place. Seven years earlier, Tsubone and a young man named Rou—Sasuke's name before he joined the Six Ninja—were returning from a mission when they discovered a village that had been completely destroyed. They found only one survivor: a young girl lying unconscious beneath a cliff. That girl was Chiyome, then known as Mia.
When Mia wakes up in the Jinshin Clan's village, her first concern is her mother. She is devastated when she learns that no one else survived. It becomes clear that her mother died while protecting her during the attack, and Mia begins blaming herself for the tragedy. Even though she was only a child and could not possibly have saved her mother, that guilt becomes the driving force behind her determination to become stronger. Her grief does not make her give up. Instead, she immediately focuses on one goal: gaining enough strength that she will never again be powerless.
Rou notices that determination and takes a particular interest in her training. He begins helping Mia practice with shuriken and teaches her that becoming a better fighter requires more than simply trying harder. When she misses repeatedly, he explains that excessive tension ruins both aim and power. She has to relax and learn to control her body before her technique can improve.
Rou pretends that his patience is simply about efficiency, arguing that helping the newest trainee improve will raise the level of everyone around them. In reality, he sees something rare in Mia. He recognizes an extraordinary strength of will in her—a spirit that refuses to break no matter how much pain she has suffered. Rou believes she has the potential to become exceptionally strong and even suggests that she could one day carry part of the village's fate on her shoulders.
As Mia continues training, she grows rapidly and develops an especially close relationship with Rou. He treats her like a younger sister, while she comes to rely on him as both a mentor and a source of support. Their training also shows how Rou thinks about combat. During a pursuit exercise, Mia focuses on becoming faster, but Rou tells her that speed and raw power are not the only qualities that matter. A truly strong martial artist knows how to surprise an opponent and create a mental opening. Against powerful enemies, being unpredictable can matter more than overwhelming force.
Eventually, Rou becomes one of the Jinshin Clan's most important warriors and earns a place among the Six Ninja, taking the name Sasuke. Mia proudly congratulates him and promises that she will work hard enough to join him one day. When she receives her first mission, Sasuke knows she is nervous and deliberately tells her a story about supposedly making embarrassing mistakes during his own first assignment. His advice is simple: stay relaxed, but never become careless.
Tsubone later reveals that Sasuke made the entire story up. The embarrassing mistakes were actually hers, not his. Sasuke had been nearly flawless from the beginning. He lied because he wanted Mia to feel less pressured and believe that even experienced warriors could struggle when they were just starting out. The truth says a lot about the kind of person Sasuke is and explains why Mia eventually came to see him as family.
After completing her first mission, Mia encounters a dangerous Snow Giant and is forced into a real battle. She uses the technique Body to Water: Blood Needle Confinement to defeat one enemy, but her victory makes her drop her guard. A second monster immediately appears, and she would have been in serious danger if Sasuke had not arrived and used Body to Wind: Scything Cyclone to finish the threat.
Sasuke scolds her for becoming careless, but his concern quickly reveals something deeper. He tells Mia that he is glad she is safe because he does not want to experience the pain of losing family again. For Mia, that moment confirms what their relationship has become. Sasuke is no longer just her instructor or fellow ninja. He is the brother she never had by blood but gained through trust, protection, and years of fighting side by side.
Mia's skills continue to grow until she finally joins the Six Ninja herself and receives the name Chiyome. She and Sasuke go on to complete numerous difficult missions together, strengthening the connection that Tsubone has been describing throughout the sea journey. Ariane can easily understand that kind of bond, comparing it to her own relationship with Arc.
The story takes a ridiculous turn when the others begin imagining that Chiyome and Sasuke's closeness must have developed into a forbidden romance. Tsubone dramatically invents an entire scenario in which the two confess their love while surrounded by enemies and prepare to die together. The fantasy becomes increasingly absurd until Chiyome finally reveals that she has been listening from the beginning. She confirms that most of the story about her past is accurate, but the romantic ending is completely fabricated. She is genuinely worried about Sasuke, but not for the reason the others keep teasing her about.
Before Chiyome can remain embarrassed for long, Arc's earlier excitement finally brings disaster—or, from his perspective, the best possible reward. A gigantic Kraken attacks the ship. Arc is thrilled, while everyone else is understandably less enthusiastic. Seeing that Chiyome is still troubled by Sasuke's uncertain situation, Arc offers her some unexpected advice. He says there are two kinds of worries: problems that can be solved and problems that cannot be changed by worrying about them. Since Chiyome cannot do anything about Sasuke's situation at the moment, Arc challenges her to take her mind off it by competing to see who can kill the Kraken first.
Chiyome immediately accepts. The two leap into action and defeat the massive sea monster together, turning a dangerous attack into the perfect outlet for Chiyome's frustration. After the fight, she finally admits that she feels much better. The victory does not solve the mystery surrounding Sasuke, but it reminds her that sitting still and worrying will not help either. Sometimes the only thing she can do is trust in the person she cares about and focus on the battle directly in front of her.
The party's next problem is much less dramatic: they now have an enormous amount of Kraken meat. Arc and Chiyome initially celebrate the possibility of cooking the creature, but the sheer quantity is far too much for the group to handle. When they eventually arrive in Primas, a town in the Kingdom of Fobnach, Ariane heads off to check on Danka, while Arc becomes distracted by the local market.
The southern continent immediately offers new cultural surprises. Arc notices ingredients resembling chili peppers and tomatoes and starts thinking about cooking, only to learn that the locals use them very differently. The peppers are ground up to blind people, while tomatoes are considered poisonous unless specially prepared. Arc realizes these foods are not quite the familiar ingredients he had hoped for, but the busy marketplace gives him another idea.
With an enormous Kraken available, Arc and the others decide to open an impromptu food stand. They grill the monster's meat and begin selling it to the locals, attracting a huge line thanks to the delicious smell. What started as a dangerous sea battle suddenly becomes a profitable business opportunity, allowing the group to get rid of the massive amount of squid while earning extra money for their travels.
Ariane eventually returns and is stunned to find Arc's group casually running a grilled-Kraken stall. Arc insists that they were simply making good use of what they had, and the plan works well enough to clear out the entire monster. The mood quickly shifts again when Ariane reveals that her visit to check on Danka did not go as expected. Danka has already left town, ending the episode with the party realizing that their next lead has moved on before they could catch up with him.
Skeleton Knight in Another World Season 2 Episode 8 delivers a strong mix of emotional backstory, comedy, and monster action, with Chiyome's tragic past giving the episode its most meaningful moments. The flashback effectively explains why Sasuke is so important to her and shows how the loss of her mother shaped her determination to become stronger. Sasuke's quiet kindness makes their sibling-like bond feel genuine, while Tsubone's wildly exaggerated romance story adds plenty of humor before the episode shifts into a fun Kraken battle. Arc also gets a surprisingly thoughtful moment when he helps Chiyome stop dwelling on a problem she cannot currently solve, before the group turns their giant sea monster victory into a profitable grilled-Kraken business. With Danka already gone by the time they reach Primas, the ending also gives the next episode a clear direction.
