The following day, Rosemyne joins the residents in the forest to search for trees that could be turned into paper. She explains that she wants something soft like volrin, with long and slender fibers. The locals quickly identify a promising material: the nanseb tree.
Nanseb trees are unusual parasitic plants that plant their seeds into other trees and absorb nutrients through their roots. Rosemyne becomes surprisingly enthusiastic about hunting them down. Using the extremely sharp magic knife given to her by the High Priest, she manages to catch one while another member of the group cuts away its roots.
The forest search soon becomes more complicated when the group encounters another strange plant called an effon. These feyplants are not particularly dangerous, but they are incredibly noisy. Rosemyne immediately wonders whether the smaller effon could become useful papermaking material, while the larger ones have already grown too large for that purpose.
Instead, the group decides to collect the feystones from the larger effon. The creatures release a powerful mana shockwave, forcing everyone to take cover. Rosemyne responds with Schutzaria’s Shield, creating a protective barrier with the power of the Goddess of Wind and the twelve goddesses who serve her.
The shield protects the group from the shockwave, and Rosemyne then identifies where the effon’s feystones are located. The information allows Damuel and the others to attack the creatures effectively. Once they have gathered enough material, the group prepares to return to Illgner.
During the journey back, Damuel admits that he does not feel as though he is becoming much stronger. His mana has increased somewhat thanks to Rosemyne’s blessing, but he wants to improve further. Rosemyne decides to explain her own approach to mana compression.

Mount Lohenberg contains an immense amount of mana, which is absorbed by the feybeasts living there. This helps maintain the mountain’s natural balance. If too many feybeasts are hunted, that balance can be disrupted and cause the wrath of the God of Fire, Leidenschaft, to erupt. In practical terms, Leidenschaft’s wrath means a volcanic eruption.
The same principle applies to riesefalke eggs. Rosemyne must therefore be careful not to take too many. The gathering is not simply about finding a valuable material; it requires her to respect the magical ecosystem surrounding Mount Lohenberg.
