When a cooking trip accidentally links Earth to a mythical realm above the clouds, a case of mistaken identity forces a clash against Demons fierce enough to rival the Ten Commandments.
The movie The Seven Deadly Sins: Prisoners of the Sky starts with a young warrior named Solaad fleeing from aggressive pursuers on a restricted floating island. Desperate to escape, he leaps into a glowing, sacred spring and activates a magical portal that teleports him away. Meanwhile, on the surface world, Elizabeth is preparing for the upcoming birthday of her father, King Bartra of Liones. To celebrate, Meliodas and the Seven Deadly Sins travel to the borderlands to hunt for a mythical flying creature known as a sky fish to use as the main ingredient for the royal feast. While exploring a nearby forest, Meliodas and his talking pig companion, Hawk, stumble upon the exact same glowing spring that Solaad used to escape. Intrigued by the sight of winged fish leaping from the water, they plunge into the spring and are instantly pulled upward into the clouds.
The magical gateway acts as a perfect swap, transporting Solaad down to Earth while launching Meliodas and Hawk high into the atmosphere into a legendary domain called the Sky Temple. When Solaad wakes up on the surface world, he is found by Elizabeth and the remaining Sins. Because Solaad possesses identical hair, height, facial features, and a similar physical frame to Meliodas, the group initially mistakes him for their captain. However, they quickly realize something is wrong because this newcomer behaves like a frightened coward, has a completely different voice, lacks Meliodas's immense power, and does not have a demon mark. Conversely, up in the clouds, Meliodas is found by the local inhabitants, a winged race of people known as Celestials. The Celestials mistake Meliodas for Solaad because of their identical appearances. They are deeply offended by his lack of wings, assuming he somehow lost them as a punishment for his cowardice.
Solaad's father, Zoria, who serves as the stern Head Warrior of the village, is infuriated by his son's perceived desertion. He orders Meliodas to be locked in a prison cell to reflect on his actions before an upcoming sacred ritual. Down on Earth, Solaad explains his true motivations to the Sins. He reveals that the ancient magical seal trapping the Demon Clan for the past 3,000 years is about to expire, signaling an apocalyptic event known as the Time of Ruin. To save his people, Solaad defied his village's laws and traveled to Earth to locate a legendary white beast called the Great Oshiro, who originally helped the Goddess Clan seal away the dark forces during the ancient war.

Back in the sky village, a fiery young Celestial warrior named Ellatte, who is also Solaad's fiancée, visits Meliodas in prison. She begs him to cooperate and pretend to be Solaad until the Succession Ceremony is completed. This generational ritual requires the heir of the Head Warrior to inherit a sacred weapon called the Winged Sword, which provides the village with the power required to keep the Demons suppressed. Ellatte reveals that Zoria harbors a deep hatred for the dark forces because his wife was killed by them a century ago. Meliodas agrees to help, but before the ritual can begin, a scout team from an elite fraction of the Demon Clan called the Six Knights of Black launches a surprise raid on the village.
A powerful Demon named Dahaka leads the assault, easily overpowering the Celestial defense forces with his toxic abilities. Zoria attempts to fight back using his Celestial Spear Technique, but his traditional strikes fail against the high-ranking invader. Just as Dahaka is about to deliver a fatal blow to Zoria and Ellatte, Meliodas breaks free and executes his signature Full Counter technique, turning the enemy's magical attack back on him and saving the village elders. Witnessing this incredible feat, the village matriarch, Vaness, mistakenly assumes that Hawk is the legendary reincarnation of the Great Oshiro because the pig's round shape matches the ancient drawings on their temple walls.
Down on Earth, a portal opens near the surface spring, and a projection of a spider-like Demon named Gara emerges to capture sacrifices for the resurrection ritual. Ban, King, Diane, Gowther, and Merlin quickly step in, revealing themselves as the Seven Deadly Sins and destroying the puppet body. Realizing that the Sky Temple is under direct siege, Merlin uses her advanced magic to transport Solaad and the rest of the team directly through the atmosphere to join the battle.
The situation escalates dramatically as the leader of the rogue fraction, Bellion, breaks the primary seal on Craggy Peak to awaken a massive, ancient beast called the Indura of Retribution. Bellion harbors a deep grudge against Meliodas because centuries ago, Meliodas rejected him from joining the elite Ten Commandments due to his unstable, malicious nature. The remaining members of the Six Knights of Black scatter across the island to harvest the souls of the villagers to power the awakening ritual.

Diane and Merlin team up to counter the deceptive magical barriers of an elemental magic user, breaking the enemy's spells with Absolute Cancel before crushing them with localized earth manipulation. Meanwhile, the prideful Escanor confronts Derocchio, a lion-like warrior, completely vaporizing him with the intense heat of his Cruel Sun.
Despite the victories of the individual Sins, Bellion manages to trick Zoria during a frantic clash on the main temple grounds. Zoria accidentally stabs Meliodas with the Winged Sword, believing he is attacking an enemy. Because the sacred blade is specifically designed to purge demonic entities, Meliodas's body rejects the weapon, causing his dark energy to flare up and leaving him completely incapacitated. With the protector down, Bellion massacres his own fallen comrades to harvest their remaining life force, successfully offering their souls to undo the chains binding the Indura.
The colossal Indura awakens, unleashing an overwhelming wave of miasma that easily shatters Merlin's Perfect Cube defensive barrier. Solaad finally realizes the true purpose of his heritage; the Winged Sword was never meant to be a simple weapon of slaughter, but rather a focus tool to channel the holy energy of the Ark spell to seal away planetary threats. As Zoria and Ellatte gather the remaining villagers to pool their magical energy, Elizabeth steps forward to contribute her royal lineage's latent holy power to the spell.
While the village concentrates on completing the massive sealing circle, Meliodas recovers from his wounds and confronts Bellion in a final airborne duel. Utilizing his clone generation ability and channeling the immense kinetic energy of Bellion's strongest attack, Meliodas unleashes a massive Full Counter that completely obliterates the rogue leader. Before the dying Bellion falls, he drops his remaining energy into the Indura, causing the beast to charge directly toward the helpless civilians gathered in the plaza.
Just as the monster is about to crush the village, Hawk's giant mother, the Mother of Chaos, drops down from the upper atmosphere, swallowing the Indura's destructive energy blast whole. This distraction gives the Sins enough time to combine their ultimate attacks into a single chain reaction, blasting the giant beast backward into the newly completed holy prison. With the threat neutralized, Zoria publicly apologizes to his son, acknowledging that Solaad's willingness to break tradition to find allies was what ultimately saved their civilization.
The movie ends with the Celestials hosting a grand victory celebration, gifting the Sins a massive supply of freshly caught sky fish as a token of gratitude. The team returns to the surface world just in time for King Bartra's official birthday party at the palace. Meliodas presents his signature sky fish pie as the main dish, but his notoriously terrible cooking skills instantly cause the king to pass out after taking a single bite, leaving Hawk to clean up the leftovers while the rest of the palace watches in absolute comedic horror.
