’ franchise reboot of Resident Evil has secured the top spot at the U.K. and Ireland box office, debuting at number one. The horror revival generated £4.2 million ($5.6 million) during its opening frame, leading a competitive weekend packed with high-profile debuts and significant box office milestones.

The strong debut for the Resident Evil franchise reboot pushed Warner Bros.’ fantasy sequel Practical Magic 2 down to second place. In its sophomore weekend, the film brought in $2.03 million, raising its cumulative local earnings to $7.5 million.

New Debuts and Holdovers Shape the Top Five

Animated and thriller releases drew steady crowds across the region. Studiocanal claimed third place with the theatrical launch of Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom. The latest stop-motion adventure from Aardman Animations collected $2.2 million over its initial opening session.

Studiocanal also secured the fourth position with its survival thriller Pressure. In its second week of release, the film added $1.4 million, bringing its total running gross to $5.8 million.

Universal Pictures’ historical epic The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan, maintained a position in the top five despite entering its tenth week in theaters. The film pulled in an additional $794,765, pushing its substantial cumulative local total to $116.1 million.

Spider-Man Makes Box Office History

Further down the charts, Sony Pictures achieved a major historical milestone with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In its eighth week of release, the Marvel tentpole generated $772,975 to finish in sixth place.

The weekend earnings pushed the film's total local gross to $133.9 million. This performance officially places Spider-Man: Brand New Day as the third highest-grossing film of all time at the U.K. and Ireland box office, sitting just behind the James Bond film Skyfall.

Documentaries and Franchises Round Out the Top Ten

The lower half of the top ten featured a mix of music documentaries, genre pieces, and anniversary event screenings:

  • Seventh Place: Disney’s music documentary Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger earned $659,899 in its second week, lifting its cumulative total to $5.1 million.
  • Eighth Place: Paramount Pictures’ new entry Bad Apples opened with a weekend take of $658,468.
  • Ninth Place: Trafalgar Releasing’s special event screening, Transformers: 40th Anniversary Event, drew nostalgia fans to generate $585,683.
  • Tenth Place: Sony's horror sequel Insidious: Out of the Further concluded the top ten in its fifth frame, adding $263,374 for a cumulative total of $10.5 million.

With major studio blockbusters maintaining long-term momentum and new franchise revivals finding immediate audiences, theatrical engagement across the U.K. and Ireland remains robust heading into the next frame.
