Sony Pictures’ long-gestating Fred Astaire biopic has secured its female leads, with Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter officially joining Tom Holland. Directed by Paul King and produced by Amy Pascal, the film comes nearly five years after Tom Holland first revealed he would lead the project.

Narrative Focus and Production
Co-written by Paul King and Steven Levenson, the script draws from Kathleen Riley’s book, The Astaires: Fred & Adele. The narrative centers on the early sibling dynamic between Fred Astaire and Adele Astaire before her retirement in 1932, which eventually led to Fred's iconic partnership with Ginger Rogers.
The project has the backing of the Astaire estate, with Fred's daughter Ava Astaire McKenzie supporting the film and her son Tyler McKenzie serving as a consultant and co-producer. Tom Holland, with a background in Billy Elliot the Musical, plans to handle his own choreography and stunt work. Production reportedly targets a start in January 2027.
