The episode 4 of The Villager of Level 999 starts with the aftermath of Kagami's escape as Menow and the others admit that chasing him has become nearly impossible because of how quickly he moves. One member suggests asking the townspeople for help since Kagami is believed to be protecting demons, but Menow immediately rejects the idea. She explains that cornering him could create unnecessary danger, even though she personally doubts he would ever lash out. Instead of remembering Kagami as a violent criminal, she recalls how he calmly spoke with them while refusing to retaliate after they attacked him. To Menow, his actions don't match the image of an evil man who blindly supports demons.
Not everyone agrees with her judgment. Another companion insists that anyone siding with demons attacking human cities must be wicked. Even so, Menow cannot ignore the fact that Kagami never forced his beliefs onto anyone and chose not to answer violence with violence. Hero Rex eventually agrees that, despite the situation, Kagami deserves to be questioned rather than immediately condemned. Both of them become convinced that understanding his true purpose is more important than capturing him at any cost.
Their conversation is interrupted when chaos erupts in town. A dangerous monster suddenly attacks the area where Princess Alice is located. Kurull immediately casts Divine Shield to protect everyone, but warns that the spell will only hold for a short time. Although Kurull urges the princess to flee without worrying about her, Alice firmly refuses. She proudly declares that protecting the people is the royal family's responsibility and insists she will never abandon someone in danger.
Just as the shield begins reaching its limit, Kagami suddenly arrives and defeats the powerful monster with perfect timing. His rescue earns praise from Princess Alice, who jokingly gives him a perfect score for saving the day. After making sure everyone is safe, Kagami tells them to leave while he handles the remaining situation.
The others quickly discover that the defeated creature was an astonishing Level 413 monster, leaving everyone shocked. They immediately question Kagami about the incredible skill he used to defeat such an enemy. His answer surprises them even more. Kagami casually explains that he simply used Charge Blow, one of the most basic combat skills available. Nobody believes such a simple attack could defeat a monster of that level until Princess Alice confirms she witnessed it herself.
As everyone tries to process what happened, Menow approaches Kagami and declares that she has countless questions for him. Rather than answering immediately, Kagami points out that a far more urgent crisis demands their attention first. He calmly clarifies that everyone has misunderstood his position. He is not fighting for the demons or against humanity. Instead, he states plainly that he is neutral, refusing to side completely with either faction.
Before anyone can continue the discussion, alarming news reaches the city. A lookout reports that an enormous army of monsters is marching toward Salmaria. According to the witness, nearly 10,000 high-level monsters are advancing directly from the direction of the Demon King's castle. The report immediately changes the atmosphere. Everyone realizes that the adventurers currently protecting the town have no realistic chance of stopping an invasion of that size.
After evaluating the situation, Hero Rex decides that remaining in the city would only result in meaningless deaths. He orders everyone to withdraw, gather reinforcements, and eventually return to reclaim Salmaria. Menow agrees with the practical decision, and the group begins organizing an emergency evacuation so as many civilians as possible can escape through the eastern gate before the monster army arrives.
Kagami volunteers to spread the evacuation warning throughout town but first entrusts Princess Alice to Menow and the others. His decision surprises everyone because Alice is still the daughter of the Demon King. One person openly asks whether Kagami truly expects them not to kill her while he's gone. Kagami calmly points out that if they genuinely intended to murder her, they would never have warned him beforehand. He also reminds them that they still want answers from him, making Alice valuable until their conversation is finished.
Although Menow jokingly questions whether his answers will be worth protecting the princess, Kagami simply bows his head and sincerely asks everyone to keep Alice safe until he returns. After watching him leave without hesitation, Alice smiles confidently and tells the group that Kagami trusts them completely. Because he believes in them, she decides she will trust them as well. That honest declaration softens the tension between both sides, and Menow quietly promises that they will honor Kagami's request and keep the princess safe.
Kagami immediately begins running through the city, urging everyone to evacuate through the eastern gate before the approaching monsters arrive. While he races from street to street warning civilians, Princess Alice remains with Menow and the others. Their conversation briefly turns lighthearted when Menow mistakes Takako for a man, only to be embarrassed after learning her assumption was completely wrong. The awkward moment quickly passes as everyone realizes Kagami has not returned after supposedly leaving to gather his companions.
Their worries deepen when a frightened resident rushes over with alarming news. A lone Villager is standing outside the city, battling the entire monster horde by himself. Princess Alice instantly realizes the fighter can only be Kagami. Takako understands his reasoning as well. If Salmaria falls, hatred between humans and demons will only grow stronger, destroying any chance of peaceful coexistence. Kagami has chosen to face impossible odds alone because he refuses to let that future happen.
Unable to stand by any longer, everyone decides to follow him. Princess Alice insists on accompanying the group, while Menow also joins despite knowing how dangerous the battlefield will be. Their earlier suspicion toward Kagami has gradually transformed into admiration mixed with concern.
When they finally reach the battlefield, they find Kagami completely surrounded by countless monsters. Even after defeating wave after wave of enemies, the overwhelming numbers continue closing in from every direction. Menow cannot believe what she is seeing, while Hero Rex admits that even someone as powerful as Kagami cannot survive forever against such an enormous force.
Takako offers a different perspective. She explains that Kagami is not fighting because he wants to prove his strength or become a hero. He simply asks himself whether something can be done or not. If there is even the slightest possibility of protecting others, he acts without hesitation. According to her, Kagami lacks something most people naturally possess—a fear of death. He never allows thoughts about his own survival to stop him from moving forward.
Hero Rex struggles to understand such a mindset. Although he claims he is prepared to sacrifice his own life when necessary, Takako points out that Kagami's attitude goes far beyond simple courage. He genuinely places the lives of others ahead of his own without considering the consequences.
Watching Kagami continue his desperate battle causes Hero Rex to question what truly motivates him. Takako quietly reveals that Kagami's past is filled with tragedy. She already knows about Rex's family being killed by monsters during a journey, but explains that Kagami experienced similar pain.
As a child, Kagami lost his father to a monster attack. He remembers hating both the monster responsible and the demons connected to monsters. However, he eventually realized that the person he hated most was himself because he had been too weak to save his own father. Being born with the Villager role seemed like a cruel fate, leaving him powerless while stronger people protected everyone else.
Instead of accepting that destiny, Kagami searched for another path. He noticed that Villagers gained experience much faster because every battle carried a greater risk of death. By constantly risking his life, he reached Level 53 at only nine years old and eventually defeated the very monster that had taken his father's life.
His victory, however, did not bring peace. When Kagami returned home, he discovered his village had been destroyed by bandits. This time, it was not monsters that had taken everything from him. Humans murdered his mother and devastated his home just as cruelly as any monster could.
Takako explains that this second tragedy completely changed Kagami's way of thinking. When monsters kill someone, people naturally direct all their hatred toward monsters and demons. But if humans commit the same terrible acts, does that mean every human deserves punishment as well? Kagami concluded that blaming an entire race for the actions of individuals was meaningless.
Hero Rex begins reflecting on his own beliefs. He admits he had allowed anger over his family's deaths to shape his view of demons without questioning it. Menow also realizes that Kagami never claimed demons were harmless. Instead, he believes the world itself is trapped inside endless hatred that only creates more suffering.
Determined to understand Kagami's true goal before it is too late, Hero Rex announces that he refuses to let Kagami die. Menow follows immediately, saying she still wants to ask him directly why he is challenging the world's way of thinking. Even the healer Tina decides to join despite knowing how dangerous the battle will be. Princess Alice prepares to help as well, while Menow accepts that protecting Kagami may make others see her as a traitor. None of them care anymore. Saving Kagami has become more important than protecting their reputations.
While Princess Alice remains safely behind the front lines, Takako promises to return with both herself and Kagami. Meanwhile, Kagami continues cutting down monsters without stopping. Even with his incredible strength, he realizes his recovery abilities cannot keep pace with the constant fighting. His body grows increasingly exhausted, yet he keeps moving because every monster he defeats strengthens the morale of the adventurers defending Salmaria. As long as the city survives, hope for coexistence between humans and demons can survive as well.
Just as Kagami begins reaching his limit, brilliant attacks suddenly crash into the monster army. Hero Rex arrives alongside Princess Alice's companions, immediately joining the battle. Rex explains that he still has many unanswered questions for Kagami and refuses to watch a single Villager shoulder the entire burden alone. Moments later, Menow, Takako, and Tina also appear on the battlefield.
Kagami is stunned to see them risking their own lives. Menow insists they are not there because they pity him, while Takako jokes that they simply came to say hello. Despite their playful words, their actions clearly prove how much their opinions have changed. They openly admit they will not allow Kagami to die.
Kagami initially worries that everyone is throwing away their lives, but the group refuses to retreat. Instead, they quickly agree on a practical strategy. They will fight together for as long as possible before withdrawing safely. Kagami happily accepts the plan and reminds everyone to value their own lives above reckless sacrifice.
Working together immediately changes the flow of battle. Tina continuously supports the front line with healing magic, allowing Kagami to recover enough to continue fighting. After surviving another dangerous attack, Kagami thanks everyone and quietly admits that he trusted them. Tina smiles and tells him to stop frightening his teammates because priests depend completely on their front-line fighters staying alive.
For perhaps the first time, Kagami realizes he is no longer carrying everything by himself. He admits that, outside of fighting beside Takako, he has very little experience working as part of a team. He promises to be more careful from now on and accept the support his companions willingly offer.
The episode ends with Kagami looking around at the people fighting beside him and quietly realizing that he is no longer alone. After spending so long believing every burden rested on his own shoulders, he finally accepts the strength that comes from trusting others, setting the stage for an even greater battle against the overwhelming monster horde.

Instead of focusing only on action, it carefully reveals the painful experiences that shaped his beliefs while allowing the other characters to gradually understand him as well. The emotional backstory, combined with the massive monster invasion and the satisfying moment when everyone chooses to fight beside Kagami, creates a strong balance between character development and exciting fantasy action. The final scene leaves viewers eager to see how this newly formed team will face an enemy army that still vastly outnumbers them.
