A fun day at the shopping mall quickly turns into Danko's toughest challenge yet as a mysterious rival appears, humiliates her friends, and ignites a fierce rivalry that changes everything.
The episode 2 of Flaming Dodgeball Girl Danko starts with a brief recap of Danko's mission to revive her late father's dodgeball club. After successfully recruiting Chinko, Mochiko, Susan, and Honey, the Tamagawa Dodgeball Club officially has enough members to move forward. The episode then shifts to a peaceful day away from school as the girls spend time together at a shopping mall instead of practicing.
Each member enjoys the outing in her own way. Chinko and Honey admire fashionable clothes while Susan wishes they were doing something cooler. Danko is thrilled to finally spend time with her new teammates outside of school, treating the trip as another step toward becoming real friends. Not everyone shares her excitement, though. Mochiko quickly grows restless, complaining that wandering around without buying anything is boring and insisting she would rather be practicing dodgeball. Before long, everyone decides to take a short break.
During the break, Danko accidentally becomes separated from the others. While she tries to reunite with her friends, a group of mysterious girls quietly begins making their move. One of them specifically targets Danko while ordering the others to deal with the remaining club members.
Elsewhere in the mall, Honey and Chinko continue growing closer. Honey shyly asks Chinko to stop calling her "Honey-san" and instead use the friendlier "Honey-chan." Chinko happily agrees before asking Honey to call her "Chinko-chan" in return. The conversation turns into a funny misunderstanding as Honey becomes embarrassed while saying Chinko's name, leaving Chinko flustered despite realizing Honey never meant to offend her. The lighthearted moment is suddenly interrupted when several strangers challenge the girls.
Without warning, one of the attackers unleashes a devastating technique called Axe Shot. Chinko immediately recognizes the danger and orders Mochiko and Susan to use the three-person catching formation they practiced together. Even with everyone combining their strength, the throw proves overwhelmingly powerful. The attackers confidently declare that no group of only three players could possibly stop the Axe Shot.
After witnessing the incredible throw, Chinko realizes exactly who stands before them. The attacker is introduced as Juri Igarashi, who surprisingly already knows Chinko and even asks about her father. Before Chinko can understand how the stranger recognizes her, Juri coldly explains that they have disappointed her mistress.
Meanwhile, Danko encounters another mysterious girl who introduces herself as Peiko Nikaido from the Saint Arrows Dodgeball Club. Peiko reveals that her own name was inspired by the eternal rivalry between her father and Danko's legendary father, Danpei Ichigeki. Danko remembers seeing Peiko during the visit to her father's grave and realizes she is the daughter of the man who built the memorial.
Although Danko is happy to recognize her, Peiko immediately surprises her by launching a dodgeball without warning. When Danko demands an explanation, Peiko declares that she wants to open Danko's eyes. She believes that the daughter of the legendary Danpei Ichigeki should be worthy of becoming her lifelong rival, yet she criticizes Danko for wasting valuable time instead of sharpening her skills.
Before Danko can defend herself, her teammates finally arrive, but they are bruised and exhausted after being defeated by Juri and the others. Furious at seeing her friends hurt, Danko demands to know what happened. Rather than apologizing, Peiko calmly praises Danko's anger, saying this determination is exactly what she wanted to see. Their confrontation instantly transforms into an intense dodgeball battle inside the shopping mall.
Peiko immediately demonstrates why she carries herself with such confidence. She catches Danko's powerful throw using only one hand before turning its force into a graceful counterattack. Using the momentum from Danko's own shot, Peiko spins through the air and unleashes her signature technique, the Dancing Sky Shot, sending the ball hurtling back with incredible speed. The attack leaves everyone stunned as Peiko's servant confidently declares that Danko has no chance of stopping it.
Instead of retreating, Danko charges directly toward the incoming ball, believing that an all-out attack deserves an all-out defense. Her teammates panic as the powerful shot closes in, but at the last possible moment Chinko joins the defense. By absorbing the ball's momentum with her own body before passing the remaining force to Danko, the two successfully bring Peiko's signature shot under control. Even Peiko's followers are shocked that someone managed to stop the Sky Shot.
Rather than becoming frustrated, Peiko bursts into laughter and enthusiastically praises Danko. She excitedly declares that this is exactly what she expects from the daughter of her father's eternal rival. Since the shopping mall is no place for a full match, Peiko ends the confrontation, promising that next time they will settle everything properly on the dodgeball court.
The following day, Danko receives unexpected news from the school. Although the Tamagawa Dodgeball Club finally has enough members, the principal still refuses to officially approve it unless the team defeats the famous Saint Arrows Dodgeball Club. The challenge was personally requested by Peiko herself. The principal explains that Saint Arrows is a powerhouse supported by the influential Nikaido family, making the request impossible to refuse. Even after being told they have almost no chance of winning, Danko refuses to back down. She confidently accepts the match, and her teammates immediately stand behind her decision.
With very little time to prepare, the girls gather at the Shin Tamagawa Swimming Center. Danko is confused when practice begins with everyone simply having fun in the pool, but her teammates explain that building trust is just as important as improving their skills. They are soon joined by several temporary players invited to help complete the roster for the upcoming match, although it quickly becomes clear that these recruits still need plenty of work.
The swimming center also introduces two important members of Danko's family. Her mother, Misato Ichigeki, warmly greets the team and recalls how Danpei once trained there. Soon afterward, Danko's energetic grandmother, Haruka Ichigeki, arrives carrying an unusual training ball. Unlike a normal dodgeball, this one is filled with weights, making it extremely difficult to throw or catch. Haruka explains that mastering such a heavy ball will make ordinary dodgeballs feel much easier to control. Inspired by stories of her father always giving everything he had, Danko eagerly accepts the challenge without hesitation.
Training quickly becomes brutal. Danko repeatedly throws the heavy ball while her teammates desperately try to catch it, only to discover just how exhausting the exercise really is. Even so, the difficult practice brings the group closer together. During a short break, Danko asks Mochiko why she continues spending time with everyone despite never receiving the one million yen she originally demanded. Mochiko casually admits that she completely forgot about the money because being part of the dodgeball club has become genuinely enjoyable. Her playful request to still receive the payment in small installments keeps the mood light before everyone throws themselves back into practice.
The next stage of training focuses on catching technique. Chinko, despite her fear of heights, launches powerful throws from a high diving platform while Danko catches them below. After remembering the frightening encounter with Peiko at the shopping mall, Chinko instinctively recreates the famous Sky Shot after seeing it only once. The incredible throw surprises everyone and reminds Danko of the overwhelming power she will soon face again. Although the impact knocks Danko down, she stubbornly refuses to quit, insisting that training will continue until she can stop the shot completely. Haruka proudly remarks that this determination is exactly what she expects from Danpei's daughter, motivating the entire team to continue working even harder.
The episode ends with... the exhausting training finally winding down as Danko and her teammates reflect on everything they have learned. Grandma Haruka notices the bruises covering the girls after their intense practice and reminds Danko that giving everything she has is not simply about becoming stronger. According to her, going all out means accepting whatever result comes afterward and living each day without regrets. Her words leave a strong impression on Danko, strengthening her determination to face the challenge ahead.
Instead of resting, the team immediately prepares to continue training through the night. Although everyone is completely exhausted from the demanding drills and the weighted dodgeball, nobody wants to fall behind before the upcoming match. Their shared determination shows just how serious they have become about protecting the future of the Tamagawa Dodgeball Club.
The story then shifts to the Nikaido Stadium, where Peiko's followers confidently predict that Tamagawa will either surrender or be crushed by the overwhelming strength of Saint Arrows. They believe the upcoming match will finally convince Danko's team to abandon their dream of reviving the club once and for all.
However, Peiko has a very different attitude. Rather than looking down on Danko, she eagerly welcomes her arrival. The moment she sees Danko, Peiko notices the signs of the harsh training she has endured and immediately realizes that every bruise and every bit of effort was made to prepare for their battle. Instead of mocking her rival, Peiko becomes visibly excited, believing Danko has finally begun taking dodgeball as seriously as she hoped.
The episode closes with both sides standing face-to-face before their long-awaited showdown. After spending the entire episode building their rivalry, improving their skills, and strengthening their resolve, Danko and Peiko are finally ready to settle their differences on the dodgeball court. With the fierce match about to begin, the stage is perfectly set for the next episode.
Episode Verdict
Episode 2 does an excellent job of turning Peiko from a mysterious stranger into a compelling rival while giving the Tamagawa Dodgeball Club more time to grow as a team. The shopping mall confrontation immediately raises the stakes, and the training sequences balance comedy with meaningful character development. Danko's refusal to back down, Chinko's impressive growth, and Haruka's demanding coaching all make the upcoming match feel well earned. Rather than rushing into the battle, the episode carefully builds anticipation, making the showdown against Saint Arrows feel like a major turning point for the series.
